How to Make a Project Roadmap Plan in Notion

This is an Arcade

Learn how to make a project roadmap plan in Notion by creating a database, customizing columns, and visualizing your roadmap with Timeline and Kanban views.

1. Open a new page in Notion
Click the + New Page icon in the top-left of your Notion workspace to begin creating your roadmap.

2. Add a full-page database
Type /database below the title and choose Database – Full page to structure your roadmap using database features.

3. Title your first column
Change the default column name to Project Name—this will serve as the title field for each roadmap item.

4. Add custom properties
Click + Add a property to define your roadmap columns. Suggested names and property types:
Assignee (Person)
Status (Select)
Start Date (Date)
End Date (Date)
Priority (Select)
Epic/Sprint (Text or Select)
Notes (Text)

5. Customize your Select options
For any Select property (like Status or Priority), click + Add an option to define dropdown values like "Not Started", "In Progress", or "High", "Medium", "Low".

6. Add colors for clarity
You can color-code Select options to visually organize your roadmap by urgency or status.

7. Populate your roadmap
Add project entries by filling out rows with names, assignees, dates, and notes. Adjust column types and labels as needed.

8. Add useful views
Click the view dropdown to add alternate ways to visualize your roadmap:
Kanban view grouped by Status
Timeline view showing Start Date to End Date
Calendar view to track project deadlines
